Ever wish you could time travel? A new app called Déjà Vu hopes to tap into that nostalgia and let users experience the past in real time.

Déjà Vu is a collection of individually-curated old photographs that show the city around you as it used to be, each selected for a specific historical reason. The app holds a collection of hundreds of vintage photographs that have been geolocated, so you can stand on a street corner and pull up a photo of that same spot from 100 years ago. Explore New York City, Boston, or Washington, D.C., with new photos added all the time. The app's creator, E J Kalafarski aims for historic scenes that "illustrate particularly stark contrasts with today".

Déjà Vu uses the fusion of your iPhone's sensors to create an augmented reality experience: your phone’s GPS lets you find the spot the photographer stood, and your phone’s gyroscope and compass spin the photo to the angle it was taken, letting you compare the vintage photograph to what stands in its spot today.
